Follow along below to learn about the features and options available to you on the Preferences tab of PPU Kiosk. The first portion will cover the Windows version of Kiosk and the second portion will display the Apple iPad version.


Windows Kiosk Preferences


Hotkeys: Allows you to manually select a hotkey.  When selected, a window will appear allowing you to choose from Settings, Minimize, or Exit.

Enable Albums: Enables a column on the left side of your Kiosk library with a folder that corresponds with the name of your watched folder. If you have more than one watched folder, the names of these folders will appear on the list and contain the photos within their respective folders.

Enable Video Frame Selection: Select this to have the option to select a frame when viewing video files. Selecting a frame will allow you to choose a single frame from the video and send it to social media or print it (based on your event manager settings).

Enable GIF Frame Selection: Select this to have the option to select a frame when viewing GIF files. Selecting a frame will allow you to choose a single frame from the GIF and send it to social media or print it (based on your event manager settings).

Remove sharing options that require internet: Automatically remove any sharing options that require an active internet connection: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Remove Print Button: Removes the print button from the list of available sharing options, even if printing is enabled within your event.

Open slide view on new photo: The newest media added to kiosk will appear in slide view (Image is larger and displays one at a time).

Disable Pinch-to-Zoom: Disable the ability to pinch to zoom into an image.


Background Image: Click Open File to add a background image to your PPU Kiosk. Press Reset to remove the image, and return to the default red and green bubbly background. For more information, check out our tutorial on adding a custom background HERE.

Thumbnails Size: Adjust the size of the thumbnail images that appear on your Kiosk Library by adjusting the value from the drop down.

Set Custom Keyboard Email: Create a custom @domain email hot key that will appear on your digital keyboard when sharing. For more information, check out our tutorial on setting a custom keyboard email HERE.

Maximum number of prints: Adjust the value to limit the number of prints that can be printed in a single session.

Maximum number of selected images: Adjust the value to allow for the maximum number of images your guests can select at one time.


Media Order:

  • Alphabetical (A to Z) / (Z to A): Select Alphabetical then select A to Z or Z to A to adjust the order in which your media is displayed.
  • Date Created (Oldest on the Left) / (Newest on the Left): Select Date Created then select Oldest on the Left or Newest on the Left to adjust the order in which your media is displayed.
  • Date Added (Oldest on the Left) / (Newest on the Left): Select Date Added then select Oldest on the Left or Newest on the Left to adjust the order in which your media is displayed.


Check new version on startup: Have this checked for PPU Kiosk to automatically search for updates upon startup.

Check Now: Click to have Kiosk immediately check for an updated version.


Export log: If you encounter errors or the software begins behaving unexpectedly, tech support may require you send your Kiosk logs. Click this to generate a .txt log file.


Press OK at the bottom to save any changes and return to the library.  Press Cancel to nullify any changes made and return to the library.


iPad Kiosk Preferences

Enable time-out for sharing screen: Enable this for the sharing screen to return to the kiosk library after a set period of time.  When enabled, Time-Out after X second(s) will appear. Adjust the value to your desired duration.

Delete Photos: Gives you the ability to delete photos from the kiosk library. Requires a Password that you can set when enabled. 

Disable Pinch-to-Zoom: Toggle the ability to pinch to zoom into media.

Remove Print Button:  Removes the print button from the list of available sharing options, even if printing is enabled within your event.

Maximum number of prints: Adjust the value to limit the number of prints that can be printed in a single session.

Override helper printers: Select a printer from the dropdown list to send any prints made from this iPad to that printer. You can choose any printer connected to the Helper PC.

Clear Cache: Clears app data, including cached photos and videos. Useful if you see photos and videos from a different event. You must first turn off Wifi in the iPad settings to enable this button.
