How to Create a Page Layout in LA Photo Party

This guide walks you step by step through all the options available when creating a page layout in LA Photo Party’s Page Designer module — plus a sample walkthrough.

1. Access the Page Designer

  • In PBU Settings, go to the Page Designer tab.

  • Click “Create New Page Layout.”

You’ll see the Create Page Layout dialog, which includes all the controls and settings you’ll need. The next section explains each item.

2. Overview of Layout Options

When you open the Create Page Layout window, here’s what each field does:

Field / OptionPurpose / Description
NameEnter a unique name for this page layout. (You’ll need a distinct name to easily identify it later.)
Printer SettingsChoose which printer this layout should use and adjust printer-specific configurations.
Import TemplateBring in an existing layout created in Breeze or Paddee (in XML or ZIP format).
Background Image FileUpload a background image (BMP, PNG, JPG, or GIF). This image sits behind your guests’ photos.
Overlay Image FileUpload a PNG overlay to appear in front of photos—useful for frames or decorative elements. Transparent areas allow photos/background to show through.
Page SizeChoose from preset sizes (width × height in inches), or select “Custom” and enter your own.
Create Photo StripIf you intend to create a photo strip layout, check this box. Usually you’ll choose a 4×6 size, and the layout will display graphics in a 2×6 format.
Nr StripsDefines how many strips will fit on the selected page size (often 2).
Photo HoldersDetermine how many photo slots (holders) guests’ images will occupy. You must have at least one photo holder. Use the +/– controls to add or remove holders.
FilterApply one color or style filter directly to this layout (no need to use the Filter tab). Only one filter can be selected per layout.

3. Building Your Page Layout (Walkthrough)

Follow these steps to build a simple layout:

  1. Name your layout.
Give it a descriptive name—this will be displayed to guests if you enable “User Select.” Unique names help with management.

  2. Add a background and/or overlay.
Use the Browse buttons next to “Background Image File” and “Overlay Image File” to upload your graphic elements.

  3. Select page size.
Choose the size that matches your print paper or output device. For example, 6×4 inches is a common choice.

  4. Add photo holders.
Click the + button to insert a photo holder. This opens the Add Photo Holder dialog, with two tabs:

    • Basic: Choose an aspect ratio (e.g. 3:2, which matches DSLR photos) and enter an optional “Message” (a note to guests that appears before the photo is taken, but not printed).

    • Advanced: Precisely set the photo holder’s position (left, top), size, and rotation (angle) using inches or pixels.

  5. Additional controls:

    • Green Screen: Allow guests to pick from multiple green screen backgrounds.

    • Stretch Mode (defines how the image fits inside the holder):

      • Stretch: distorts the image to fill.

      • Crop: enlarges and crops to fill entirely.

      • Center: centers and scales down—may leave blank edges.

    • Repeat Photo Holder: Reuse a photo from another slot (e.g. 1‑2‑1).

    • Opacity Slider: Make the photo holder semi‑transparent, which helps blend with the background.

    • Mirror Photo: Flip the photo holder horizontally.

  6. Once you’ve configured it, click OK. The new holder will appear on the layout canvas.

You can reposition or resize it by selecting and dragging. While highlighted, it appears in red with a green handle for rotation/size.
    Keyboard shortcuts:

    • Arrow keys → move

    • Z / X → rotate

    • N / M → resize

    • C → center the holder in the layout

  7. If you need more holders with the same settings, right-click the holder name in the list and select Copy to duplicate it, then adjust position as needed.

  8. Finalize your layout.
When you’re satisfied with placement, click OK to close the layout window.

  9. Activate the layout.
In the main Page Designer tab, enable Auto Apply under Page Design Mode. Locate your new layout among the thumbnails (it usually appears on the far right) and click Select. Then click OK to save it.

  10. Test it out.
Return to the main screen and hit the Photo button. Your layout should now be active — take a test shot to preview.
